Stephen Gilman, MD, FAPA, FASAM is an NYC, Manhattan-based addiction psychiatrist. He specializes in adult and adolescent psychiatry. Dr. Gilman’s Background

Dr. Gilman graduated in 1991 from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Then, he completed a general psychiatry residency at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in NYC, Manhattan. There, he was recognized for his expertise and leadership skills. He was appointed as Chief Psychiatry Resident. He was also the acting medical director of the methadone maintenance treatment program (MMTP) for opioid dependence.

Afterward, he then completed an intensive two-year post-residency Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship at NYU School of Medicine. It was in the Division of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse. There, he published original research focusing on the use of Suboxone (buprenorphine) in treating opioid dependence in the private office setting.

He has been a Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at medical schools in NYC, Manhattan, and New Jersey. These appointments include NYU School of Medicine and Rutgers Medical School, Newark NJ. He has been the medical director of many outpatient substance-abuse facilities in Manhattan, NYC.

Dr. Gilman’s Research

Dr. Gilman has conducted original research in general psychiatry and addiction treatment. He has written articles for both scholarly journals and consumer publications. Dr. Gilman has also appeared in the media as a psychiatry and addiction treatment expert. He has been awarded many awards for his psychiatric and addiction expertise. This includes the Physician Recognition Award of the American Medical Association (AMA).

Dr. Gilman has received the high distinction of becoming a Fellow in both the American Psychiatric Association (APA) and the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM). Fellowship status is reserved for those experts at the top of their profession.

In addition to clinical work seeing patients in his private office-based practice, Dr. Gilman has experience as an expert consultant for the legal profession, the workplace, media, and the insurance and disability industries and is accepting new referrals.
